Schedule your free consultationWhy the DMV is one of America's wealthiest regions
The Washington region is not wealthy by accident. Federal contracting, cybersecurity, defense technology, biotech, health systems, law, policy, and headquarters work create a concentration of high-income households that few American metros can match. The result is a ring of jurisdictions where homeowners expect serious design, careful construction, and a builder who understands the administrative complexity behind premium projects.
Five of the highest-income communities in the country sit within the broader DMV orbit. That wealth shows up in estate-scale custom homes in Loudoun, high-value teardown-rebuilds in Falls Church, additions and whole-home renovations in Arlington, major custom work across Fairfax, and suburban-estate construction in Howard County. These are not commodity building markets. They require early feasibility, design discipline, and permit strategy before construction pricing is meaningful.
Our service area
Capital Design Build Group serves Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland with integrated architecture, permitting, and construction. The counties tier is organized for owners who are deciding whether they need a custom home builder, addition contractor, renovation team, ADU specialist, or commercial design-build partner in a specific high-income jurisdiction.
The active wealth-tier hub includes Loudoun, Falls Church, Fairfax, Howard, Arlington, Calvert, Montgomery, Stafford, Anne Arundel, and Prince William. These are the places where budgets, lot values, waterfront conditions, estate parcels, and zoning complexity justify a design-build approach. Each jurisdiction has its own review culture, permitting sequence, tree and stormwater requirements, and neighborhood expectations. We treat those conditions as design inputs, not late surprises.

Use these cards as a starting point for county-specific design-build planning. Each dedicated county page covers the local budget reality, permitting context, wealthy neighborhoods, and service mix that shape premium construction in that jurisdiction.

How design-build works
Design-build replaces the traditional owner-architect-general-contractor triangle with one accountable team. Instead of developing drawings in isolation, then discovering construction cost or permitting problems months later, design-build keeps feasibility, estimating, code review, and construction sequencing in the same conversation from the beginning.
That matters most on high-end projects with complex requirements: steep lots, mature trees, historic context, HOA review, additions attached to older structures, estate utilities, accessory structures, pools, guest houses, and phased occupancy. A single contract and single team reduce GC-architect finger-pointing and help the owner make decisions with cost, schedule, and jurisdictional reality visible.
What we build across the DMV
Across the region, our work includes custom homes in the $1.5M–$5M+ range, major renovations from $300K–$1.5M, additions from $200K–$800K, ADUs from $80K–$450K, and commercial construction from $500K–$5M+. Those ranges are broad because the DMV contains everything from tight Arlington lots to western Loudoun acreage and Maryland suburban-estate parcels.
The constant is that every project benefits from coordinated planning. A custom home needs entitlement and site strategy before architecture becomes final. A major renovation needs structural investigation and phasing. An addition needs zoning, drainage, and utility review. An ADU needs local ordinance analysis, especially because Virginia and Maryland follow different legal frameworks.
Related services and ADU planning
County pages are top-of-funnel hubs, not replacements for service pages. If you already know the project type, start with our services overview. If you are specifically evaluating accessory dwelling units, start with the ADU hub and then move into the county page for permitting and neighborhood context.
For large projects, the best first meeting usually covers both the property and the service type. A Falls Church teardown-rebuild, a Fairfax addition, a Loudoun guest house, and a Howard County in-law suite may all be “residential construction,” but the approval path and cost drivers are different.
